Diversity is more than a trend in supply chain management.
As part of our commitment to the communities that Yum! Brands, Inc. serves, UFPC® and Yum! Brands work together to develop strategic relationships with Minority- or Women-Owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs). With an annual purchasing volume of over $5.3 billion, UFPC negotiates volume purchases of food, packaging, equipment and other supplies from manufacturers and suppliers for purchase by operators and distributors who supply operators. In 1999, approximately 1 percent of the supplier spend* represented minority- or women-owned businesses. By 2007, this figure had risen to 4.5 percent. This year we are proud to report a system spend of over $248 million with minority-owned businesses.
*Supplier spend (or managed spend) is the amount of dollars UFPC negotiates annually for all food, paper, equipment and non-food items in its role as the exclusive domestic supply chain management organization for Yum! Brands, Inc.

Our Policy: We will utilize Minority- or Women-Owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) wherever possible in all aspects of UFPC/Yum! Brands business. In compliance with this policy, UFPC will:
- Actively seek qualified M/WBEs for all possible requirements and opportunities.
- Assist M/WBEs so that they fully comprehend our system's expectations of suppliers and the procedure for submitting competitive proposals to UFPC.
- Put in place business development plans for those who cannot immediately meet our system’s requirements.
- Accept only those proposals that are competitive with other supply options. It is the intent of this policy to increase procurement from minority business concerns, thereby establishing a stronger minority business community and a more viable national economic base.
