UFPC Forms Alliance with UniStar to Deliver Group Purchasing Services
Louisville, Ky. — July 5, 2001 —
Unified Foodservice Purchasing Co-op®, LLC (UFPC®) has reached an agreement with UniStar LLC (UniStar), a Louisville-based provider of aggregated purchasing services.
UFPC is the purchasing arm for more than 18,000 KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell corporate- and franchise-owned restaurants throughout the U.S. The agreement calls for UniStar to aggregate nonstrategic products and services commonly purchased by Tricon's restaurant operations. UniStar will aggregate UFPC operators’ indirect maintenance and administrative purchases through a single network of prequalified suppliers to provide significant cost savings and improved procurement efficiencies to KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut operators nationwide.
UFPC operators will be able to access best-in-market prices and services from leading national suppliers through various channels, including an e-commerce engine available on UniStar's Web site.
“The alliance with UFPC reflects a continuation of our mission to become a leading aggregator of indirect purchases for fragmented industries,” said Miles Lee, President of UniStar. “As the purchasing arm of the world's largest restaurant company, the UFPC relationship certainly validates the advancements we are making toward this objective.”
Based in Louisville, Ky., UFPC manages the supply chain on behalf of Tricon corporate- and franchise-owned restaurants in the U.S.
“UniStar's proven ability to effectively reduce the total costs of indirect purchases items will enable us to provide even greater value to our member operators,” said Daniel E. Woodside, UFPC’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “They are the ideal turnkey partner to serve this need while allowing us to focus on our core supply chain strategies.”
