UFPC Gives Almost 8,000 Food Items to Wayside Christian Mission
Louisville, Ky. — Sept. 29, 2000 —
Unified Foodservice Purchasing Co-op®, LLC (UFPC®) will give 7,960 nonperishable food items to Wayside Christian Mission on Monday, Oct. 2. After a weeklong food drive in UFPC’s three offices, the company’s 206 employees collected 10,781 food items. The food is currently stacked and overflowing UFPC’s lobby to help employees celebrate their efforts.
This week, the company’s employees were divided into teams that competed to donate the most nonperishable food items for Wayside Christian Mission. As the week drew to a close, the competition got fierce with employees of all levels going shopping and bringing in cartloads of food.
"We worked hard to make it fun to give," says Angela Johnson, one of two primary event organizers. "The team competition brings out the best in our employees. We used a football theme and invited employees to wear T-shirts or sweatshirts with their favorite teams. Blue jeans, which are not typically part of our dress code, were even allowed on Friday."
Teams got very creative and made up names, like “Purple People Feeders.” UFPC’s Dallas office will be donating 508 items to Christian Community Action in Lewisville, Texas. UFPC’s Irvine office (with only 10 employees) will be dividing 2,313 between two organizations — the Sheepfold and YWCA’s Hope School in Orange, Calif. UFPC held a similar event at Derby time to raise money to buy socks and underwear for the Home of the Innocents. Employees donated the $3,348 and the purchasing expertise to make that money go as far as possible.
UFPC manages the supply chain for corporate and franchise KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut restaurants. The members of UFPC include the KFC National Purchasing Co-op, Inc., the Taco Bell National Purchasing Co-op, Inc. and the Pizza Hut National Purchasing Co-op, Inc. Headquartered in Louisville, Ky., UFPC also operates offices at the restaurant support centers in Dallas, Texas, and Irvine, Calif.
