Community Involvement

Committed to making a positive difference — every day.

With a legacy of supporting Kosair Charities Bears on Patrol, Brooklawn Child and Family Services, the American Red Cross and Making Strides (Hats for Hope), UFPC® is committed to passionate social responsibility. UFPC team members undertake community programs with the same focus, strategy and responsiveness shown in our role as the exclusive supply chain management organization for Yum! Brands, Inc. There are several key areas where UFPC demonstrates its commitment to helping our community.

Health and Wellness
UFPC has been an active participant in many activities that contribute to fundraising for communitywide health- and wellness-related campaigns, as well as to the health and wellness of our own team members.

  • Hats for Hope/Making Strides — an annual fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. Two hundred hats and 50 to 60 gift packages are offered during this silent auction. The auction occurs in mid-April to capitalize on interest in hats generated by the upcoming Kentucky Derby. Additionally, a bake sale is held in January to benefit this event.
  • March for Men — UFPC’s March for Men was organized with three purposes in mind: to raise team member awareness of prostate cancer, provide low-cost screening for team members and their relatives, and to raise funds for the Kentucky Cancer Program.
  • American Red Cross — Whether it’s for a serious illness or a life-threatening emergency, every two seconds a U.S. citizen needs blood. Since 1998, UFPC team members in Louisville have donated 1,490 units of blood. Giving blood is a simple — but not a small — thing to do.
  • Team member wellness — UFPC team members have participated in programs like the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement, a UFPC version of the Biggest Loser competition, and a community health fair, all designed to promote health and wellness. The next program in which we will participate is the Kentuckiana Metro on the Move, a worksite wellness program that facilitates involvement in wellness activities in the community.

Hunger Awareness
UFPC team members have embraced activities designed to alleviate hunger in our community.

  • Can Drives — UFPC’s most recent can drive collected over 5,000 cans that were donated to Dare to Care in Louisville, Ky., and food pantries in Dallas, Texas, and Irvine, Calif., to support the vital mission of feeding the hungry in the communities where we live and work.
  • Volunteer service at Dare to Care — UFPC team members have helped sort and pack food and have supported the National Association of Letter Carriers food drive.
  • Volunteer service at local missions — UFPC team members have served meals at several missions in our community.

Children and Families
UFPC team members have demonstrated a particular passion for programs that benefit children and families.

  • Kosair Charities Bears on Patrol — Managed by Kosair Charities, the Bears on Patrol program collects stuffed bears from the community and distributes them to area law enforcement agencies. Patrol officers give the comforting bears to children removed from traumatic situations. To date, UFPC has donated over 2,600 bears to the program.
  • Brooklawn Child and Family Services — Since 2004, UFPC team members have organized an annual fall party for boys who are residents at Brooklawn. Games, pizza and ice cream make a fun time for all, including UFPC team members. We support Brooklawn’s Christmas through Angel Tree adoptions, wrapping Christmas gifts, and stuffing stockings for the boys. We have also provided “Santa” as an extra attraction at their Christmas party. Over the years, we have provided other support as needed, including school supply drives, book readings and remembering the boys with birthday cards. In October 2008, UFPC provided a large contingent of volunteers for Brookawn’s first “Concours d'Elegance” car show fundraiser.

In addition to these programs, UFPC is a passionate supporter of both the United Way and the Fund for the Arts. Founded in Louisville, Ky., in 1917, Metro United Way is a nonprofit organization that raises and distributes funds to more than 90 health and human services agencies in the seven-county Louisville metro area. The Fund for the Arts serves over 450,000 schoolchildren every year and provides funding and support to 29 arts groups and programs.
